Lady Lions roar to second-place finish

NEWARK, Del.
– The Lincoln University women's indoor track & field team is off to great start in 2012 as the Lady Lions took second at the Delaware Invitational at the University of Delaware Fieldhouse on Friday night.
 
Lincoln finished with 77 points as Ursinus won the Division II-III meet with 110 points. The United States Merchant Marine Academy was third with 75 points, followed by Holy Family (65), Wesley (42) and Hood (10).
 
In the first event of the night, Andrea Carter (North Babylon, NY/North Babylon HS) and Jataun Cobb (Aliquippa, Pa./Center Area HS) went third and fourth in the shot put and Courtney Malcolm (Rochester, N.Y./School of the Arts) took first in the long jump. In the 60m dash, the Lady Lions had four runners inside the top eight. Andrea Fields (Clinton, MD/Surrattsville HS) (8.04), Taylor Lyons (Oakland, Calif./Holy Names HS) (8.45) and Fatima Ross (Philadelphia, Pa./Williamstown HS) (8.59) went second through fourth and Ashley Torres (Oxford, PA/Oxford Area HS) (8.82) was seventh.
 
Fields continued to have an outstanding meet as she took second in the 200m dash in 26.86. Lyons (28.74), Malcolm (28.95) and Torres (29.48) were fourth through sixth in the event. Shannon Spaulding (Stamford, CT/Westhill HS) placed fifth in the 400m dash in 1:02.92
 
The 4x400m relay team of Alexis Cubbage (North Plainfield, NJ/Union Catholic HS), Spaulding, Malcolm and Shana Brown (Baltimore, MD/Institute of Notre Dame) was edged out by Holy Family (3:58) as the Lady Lions crossed at 3:57.
 
Lincoln travels Saturday, Jan. 14 to New York University Invitational in New York, N.Y.
