Aaron Hunter earned a trip to the podium

PETERSBURG, Va. (April 23, 2011) — Aaron Hunter (Sharon Hill, PA/Academy Park) recorded Lincoln's top finish at the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association Championships, a second-place effort in the long jump.

He pounced a season-best 7.42 meters, trailing just Orlando Duffus of Saint Augustine's College by two hundredths of a meter. Hunter's excitement was tempered. While he was thrilled to receive a medal and acquire eight of Lincoln's 24 points, he was disappointed to have his streak broken. He had won three long jump titles in a row entering the conference championships.

Hunter also earned an additional five points by placing fourth in the triple jump by registering a distance of 46 feet, 3.25 inches.

Overall, the Lions placed eighth of 10. Saint Augustine's College took the crown with 176.50 points while Johnson C. Smith (119) and Winston-Salem State (106) rounded out the top three.

Lincoln's 4x100 team of Kevin Morgan (Providence, R.I./Hope HS), Andre Wilkinson (St. Michael's, Barbados/William Grady (NY)), Asaad Monroe (Wilmington, DE/Delcastle Technical HS) and Diedre McLeod also placed fourth, running a 42.61lap for an additional five points. The group also qualified for the IC4A championships.

In the 400-meter hurdles, Tarem Cannonier (Whiteplains, N.Y./Woodlands HS) placed fifth, crossing in 54.26 for four team points.

Vincent Thomas (Columbia, PA/Columbia, PA) advanced to the finals in the 800 meters and placed eighth for one team point. He ran a solid race of 1:58.51

Cannonier, Thomas, Hunter and Diedre McLeod also earned a point for placing eighth in the 4x400-meter relay in a time of 3:21.56.
