LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. — The Third Annual Blue and Orange football game has been scheduled for 4 p.m. on Tuesday, April 6 at the Lions Soccer Field. Admission to the scrimmage is free.
A staple for college football programs across the nation, the instraquad game culminates the offseason work and spring practice sessions.
Lincoln University is entering its third year of competition and returns nine starters on defense and eight on offense.
Last season, Lincoln went 3-7, a two-win improvement from the inaugural 2008 campaign. Those wins included romps over Cheyney University and Southern Virginia University and a shutout of Livingstone College.
Just defeating George Mason's club team in 2008, beating Cheyney in the 2009 Wade Wilson Classic marked LU's first win over an NCAA opponent since Thanksgiving Day 1959 when the Lions defeated Howard, 9-0. Blanking Livingstone, 10-0, was the first time LU had accomplished that feat since that Howard game as well. The successful trip to Salisbury, N.C., also gave Lincoln its first road win and CIAA victory (Lincoln is a provisional member of the conference) since the reinstatement of the football program.
