Men pick up three wins at CIAA Round-up

Elmwood Simon dominated Day Two of the CIAA Round-up

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. — The Lincoln University men's tennis team left quite an impression on the CIAA by picking up three wins and nearly pulling out a fourth at Round-up hosted by Virginia State last weekend, conquering Virginia State once, 5-2 and Saint Paul's twic, 7-2.

Lincoln had dropped doubleheaders to Shaw, Virginia State and Johnson C. Smith before pulling out a 5-4 win over Virginia Union. LU singles wins by Alfayo Michira (Kisii, Nigeria , Cardinal Otumga), Darius Gregory (Hyattsville Md./Central HS) (Hyattsville MD) and Richard Oberton. Gregory and OBeton each won 8-0 while Michira had a more competitive match at 8-6. In doubles, the teams of Gregory and Oberton and Elwood Simon (Philadelphia, PA, Master Charter) and Oberton both won 8-4.

In the second match of the doubleheader, Simon and Oberton lost 8-5, and with the winners of the other mathes remaining the same from the first meeting, the Panthers got the 5-4 win.

Lincoln defeated Saint Paul's twice by scores of 7-2 thanks to wins by Michael Sangster (Belize, C.A, Sacred Heart College), Simon, Gregory and Oberton in singles and sweeping doubles. 

With the string of wins, LU (3-7-1) has now won three of its last for matches. Lincoln next travels to Gwynedd-Mercy College on March 31 at 4 p.m.
