Bethea's grab applies perfect ending to exciting Spring Game
toshawn

WEST GROVE, PA. (April 9, 2009)  -- Sean Bethea caught an 18-yard touchdown pass with no time remaining to lift the Blue squad (wearing White jersey’s) to a dramatic, 17-14 victory over the Orange squad in the annual Spring Game Thursday night at Avon Grove High School. Bethea caught the winning pass from Kareem Dennis with two defenders around him. It was reminiscent of Santonio Holmes’ grab in the Super Bowl or Dwight Clark’s grab in the 1981 NFC Championship game against Dallas. It was an awesome catch. As Bethea landed in the end zone he was swarmed by jubilant teammates as they piled on top of sophomore.

“At that time, I felt like I needed to make a big play,” Bethea said. “As receivers, I believe we bring the best out of each other. We all support each other, but deep down we want to out-do each other. We are looking forward to starting the season.”

However, before Bethea could be the hero in the victory, he had to watch his friend and fellow wide receiver Osasuyo “T.O.” Obazee take his turn in the spotlight. He caught a touchdown pass from Aaron Thomas with 18 seconds remaining to give his team a temporary, 10-7 lead. Obazee executed a perfect fade pattern and then snatched the ball out the air like he was pulling down a rebound.

Gerald Foster returned an interception for a touchdown for the Orange squad. Mike Marchand kicked a field goal and Myles Fleming scored a touchdown for the Blue team. Coach Olabaniji Abanishe liked the effort of his wide receivers and he is looking forward to the season opener against Cheyney on August 29.

A complete Spring game recap and Spring practice overview will be available on the website next week.
