LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. — Three Lincoln sophomores have been honored for their successes on and off the field during the fall of 2009 and hold tremendous promise for future success.
Brucelee Sterile (Miami, FL, North Miami Beach),
D'Ante Smith (Bowie. MD, Riverdale Baptist) and
Stephanie Anderson (Coatesville, PA, Coatesville Area) were named to the
Philadelphia Inquirer All-Area teams. Sterile and Smith were named to the football squad while Anderson received recognition on the women's soccer team.
Sterile led Lincoln in tackles with 88 tackles and was second with 11 tackles for loss marking the second straight year he led the Lions in stops as last year he had 96. He offered a career-high 13-stops against Virginia Union and recovered a fumble against New Haven. The sophomore linebacker holds a 3.84 GPA in business management.
Smith led LU with 446 rushing yards and is the only Lion to surpass 100 yards in a game since the reinstatement of football, a feat accomplished at Livingstone Sept. 26 with 114 yards on just 16 carries. Also a sophomore, he has a 3.57 GPA as an undeclared major.
Anderson has accolades beyond her years. With a second-consecutive 14-goal season, she has already rewritten the women's soccer record books, standing alone atop the single-season and career goal-scorer lists. Against Medgar Evers, she scored four goals, a feat she accomplished in 2008 against Gallaudet.
Voting was conducted by the Philadelphia Sports Information Directors Association. Nominations were made by each school's SID. Athletes had to be at least a sophomore with a 3.0 grade point average and exhibit on-field success.
